It is right to give 10 percent reservation to the economically weaker general category people. The Supreme Court has approved this decision of the Central Government. A 5-judge bench in the Supreme Court has supported 3-2 to 10 percent reservation.
Chief Justice UU Lalit, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Justice S. A bench of Ravindra Bhat, Justice Bela M. Trivedi and Justice JB Pardiwala gave the verdict. Justice Maheshwari, Justice Trivedi and Justice Pardiwala have supported the reservation, while Chief Justice UU Lalit and Justice Ravindra Bhat are against it.
In fact, before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Modi government had made the 103rd amendment to the Constitution to give 10 percent reservation to the general category people on economic grounds. But more than 40 petitions were filed in the Supreme Court. On this, the Supreme Court had reserved its decision on 27 September.
